Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the best turfgrass varieties to create green areas under long and cold winter conditionsin high-altitude regions. In 2018, 14 varieties of Lolium perenne, Festuca arundinacea, Poa pratensis, Festuca rubra, and Agrostis tenuiswere planted. In 2018 and 2019, the results of the turf quality parameters were evaluated. The research was carried out in a randomizedcomplete blocks experimental design with three replications at the Plant Production and Application Center of Atatürk Universityin Erzurum. Emergence speed, ground cover speed, the start date of growth in spring, the date of dormancy in autumn, the winterhardiness, the regeneration power after clipping, and the turf quality parameters were examined. F. arundinacea and L. perenne cultivarswere in good condition in terms of numerous parameters. Olympus, Brigantine, Master Piace, Allstarter, Jackento, and Cutter2 areturfgrass varieties better adapted to regional conditions. It was determined that the Denso variety of A. tenuis developed poorly in highaltitude conditions and that its turf quality characteristics were poor.
