Abstract

This research was carried out under Bursa conditions in 1995 and 1997. In this study, the effects of plant population and nitrogen doses on the fresh ear yield and some yield components in the hybrid variety Merit were investigated. Row spacing was constant and distances within rows of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 cm were used. Five nitrogen doses (0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 kg N/ha) were also applied. According to the mean of two year results, the effects of plant population and nitrogen doses were found to be statistically significant in ear height, ear diameter, seed number in ear, fresh ear weight, number of ears in each plant and fresh ear yield. Plant population x nitrogen level interaction in fresh ear yield was significant. It was shown that a distance within rows of 21.4 cm (71900 plants/ha), and nitrogen dose of 280 kg/ha were a suitable combination for maximum fresh ear yield according to regression analysis.
