Abstract
The anatomical and morphological changes on the cross-sections of calabrian pine needles (Pinus brutia Ten) caused by the emission of air polluting matter from YataÛan Thermal Power Plant are investigated. In total,15 pilot research areas around the thermal power plant were chosen. In those areas, 1 and 2-year-old needles were taken from about 2 meters height. On the microscopic observation on these needles, it was determined out that the number of resin channels increased in the polluted areas in respect to the control ones; the diameter of the channels increased and the chlorophyll amounts decreased.
