Improving the immune response is important for many reasons such as vaccine failure, immunosuppressive diseases, and antibiotics misuse. Research on materials likely to have immune-enhancing effects has been on the rise. Factors, substances, or compounds that can regulate different functions of the immune system can be used to enhance specific and even nonspecific responses to vaccines. Different amounts (0, 25, 50, and 100 μg) of Staphylococcus aureus extracellular products (SECP) were injected subcutaneously to different groups of chickens during the first vaccination against avian influenza (AI) and Newcastle disease (ND) viruses to investigate the effect of SECP on innate and humoral immunity of broiler chicks. This study showed that the SECP could increase the immune response against AI and ND viruses at 50 μg (P < 0.05). Also, innate immune response, including serum complement activity, was boosted at 100 μg, as well as the performance at 50 μg (P < 0.05). Hence, SECP is suggested to be used for enhancing chicken immune response and to improve vaccine performance.
