Some Population and Reproduction Characteristic of Picarel (Spicara smaris L., 1758) in the Bay of Sinop

Abstract
In this study, some population and reproduction characteristics of picarel (Spicara smaris L., 1758) catching from the bay of Sinop. Totally, 985 fishes were examined from January to December 1993. According to the results, picarel ranged between age of I and V. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) was used to find out the reproduction season of picarel. It was obserwed that maximum egg laying was from June, July and August. The number of the eggs was ranged 7524 - 11536 and the diameter of the eggs was 0.55 ± 0.093 mm. The lenght - weight relation ship was calculated as W = 0.008072 L 3.1.
