Energy Gap Reduction by Quasiparticle Injection in Bi(Pb) SrCaCuO Break Junctions

Abstract
An energy gap reduction in Bi(Pb) SrCaCuO break junction tunnel structures has been observed. Possible reasons for energy gap reduction are discussed. A nonequilibrium excess quasiparticle population created by the quasiparticle tunnel current of the junction itself has been proposed to explain the suppression of the energy gap.
