On Pulsar Velocities and Pulsar-Supernova Remnant Associations

Abstract
We present a critical assessment of pulsar velocities reported in the literature on the basis of pulsar-supernova remnant (PSR-SNR) associations, and compare these with velocities obtained from proper motion measurements. The known pairs of positionally related pulsars and supernova remnants are discussed critically. Some of these pairs are not likely to be real associations and high pulsar velocities derived on the basis of these associations may not be reliable. All pulsars with proposed velocities $>1000$ km/s inferred on the basis of claimed associations with supernova remnants are concentrated in the general direction of the galactic center, 300^{\circ} Keywords: pulsars, supernova remnants
