Burau-Like Representations of the n-Braid Group

Abstract

We consider representations of the Artin n-braid group [1] by (2n-1) \times (2n-1) matrices over a noncommutative ring. We show that any representation in a module over this ring yields a representation of the braid group which reduces to the reduced Burau representation.
