Abstract

The time evolution of the scale factor in a (D+1) dimensional homogeneous-isotropic universe admitting torsion is studied when the matter content is described by radiation, dust, stiff matter and decompressive matter. All models initially expand at a rate diminished by torsion except for the model admitting stiff matter, which is not influenced by spin generated torsion. It is stressed that such models have value in that they provide a mechanism for the evolution from the Planck scale in D+1 dimensions to the scale of compactification when spin generated effects are dominant.
