Phase diagrams of Smectic A-Smectic~C^* Transitions in Magnetic and Electric Fields

Abstract

Starting from a Landau free energy density expanded in terms of spontaneous polarization and the tilt angle, we have obtained the phase diagrams of smectic A-smectic C* transition in ferroelectric liquid crystals under the applied magnetic and electric fields. Our calculated phase diagrams are compared with those obtained experimentally.
