Phase diagram of Sodium Nitrate in an Electric Field

Abstract

Sodium nitrite exhibits in an applied electric field the three phases, namely, paraelectric, ferroelectric, and sinusoidally modulated phases. These three phases coexist at the triple point. Using a phenomological Landau theory, we have obtained theoretical phase diagram of sodium nitrite. Our phase diagram is in good agreement with the experimentally observed phase diagram.
