The Use of Rayleigh Backscattering For Interferometric Remote Fiber Optic Sensor System

Abstract

Distributed intrusion detector capable of locating weak mechanical perturbations along an optical fiber is described. The devise is based on a coherent light source reflectometer and demonstrate sensitivity aproaching that of interferometric sensors.
