Abstract
In order to evaluate whether fibrinogen (FBN) is increased following an infarction, we determined plasma FBN levels in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), at initial presentation and also on sequential days 2, 3, 4 and 15 post-infarction. Control subjects were included in the study, with the same parameter being measured only once in them. Plasma FBN levels were found to be elevated in the AMI patients on each of the five days (3.89 g/L at initial presentation; 4.85 g/L on day 2; 5.90 g/L on day 3; 7.17 g/L on day 4; and 4.82 g/L on day 15) compared to the controls (2.88 g/L) (p
