Does Intracervical Prostaglandin E2 Gel Change Fetal Doppler Flow?

Abstract
Twenty eight patients received intracervical prostaglandin E2 gel to ripen the cervix before induction in unfavorable cases. The fetal umbilical artery flow velocity waveforms were recorded immediately before and 40 minutes after the administration. Blood flow velocite did not change significantly for the fetal umbilical artery. Neither sytolic/diastolic ratio nor pulsatility index were elevated above the baseline values. These results suggest that cervical ripening with intracervical prostaglandin E2has no effect on the fetal umbilical artery flow velocity waveforms.
