Four 6-aminopenicillanic acid moieties were grafted at either rim of calixarene, giving 2 novel generations of penicillin, which were named calixpenam. Antibiotic tests showed that they have amplified activity with respect to the corresponding penams against 3 gram-positive nonpenicillinase-producing strains of Streptococcus.
