An Investigation on the Morphology and Anatomy of Some Species of the Genus Sternbergia Waldst. & Kit. (Amaryllidaceae)
The morphological and anatomical properties of Sternbergia lutea (L.) Ker-Gawl. ex Sprengel, Sternbergia sicula Tineo ex Guss., Sternbergia candida Mathew et T. Baytop and Sternbergia clusiana (Ker-Gawl.) Ker-Gawl. ex Sprengel have been investigated. The Sternbergia Waldst. & Kit. species are bulbous plants. Their leaves are linear, 4-6 in number all basal, and appear with or after flower; this variation depends on the Sternbergia species. The flowers are solitary in each scape the tube is infundibular and yellow; flowering in spring or autumn. The fruit consists of a loculusite capsule.
