Abstract

Batch grown cultures of Rhodococcus ruber from different growth phases and continuous grown cultures from carbon, phosphate and magnesium limitation were analysed by pyrolyis mass spectrometry (PyMS). Batch grown cells showed significantly different pyrograms and the stationary phase cells could be clearly distinguished from exponential phase cells. Mass pyrograms of carbon, phosphate and magnesium limited cells were clearly different and, for carbon and phosphate limitation, clear trends were seen with different dilution rates. Changes in pH and temperature had no systematic effect on mass pyrograms.
