The Comparison of Geranium sylvaticum L. and Geranium purpureum Vill. in Terms of Total Plant Nucleic Acids Amount
Abstract
Two species of Geranium L. (G. sylvaticum L. and G. purpureum Vill.) were compared with regard to their total amounts of plant nucleic acids. The amounts of nucleic acids (DNA, RNA) extracted from fresh leaves of these two Geranium species were determined by spectrophotometric method. Results showed that there are distinct differences in the amounts of nuclear, mitochondrial and chloroplast DNA. G. sylvaticum was determined to have greater amounts of nuclear, mitochondrial and chloroplast DNA than G. purpureum. Similar results were found in the amounts of RNA.
