A Pyrolysis Mass Spectrometry (PyMS) Study of Streptomyces violaceus Spp.
Abstract
A total of eight of Streptomyces violaceus were examined by pyrolysis mass spectrometry (PyMS) with a Horizon Instruments PyMS 200X to detect the relatedness of these strains. S. michiganensis 5015, S. sporoverticillatus 5036, S. violaceus 5183 were grouped in a separate cluster while S. vinaceus 5515, S. violaceus 5189, S. violaceus 5082, S. venezuelae 5230 occurred in a second distinct group. The S. showdoensis 5504 strain was discriminated as distinct from other groups. Classification based on PyMS resolved groups largely incorrespondent to the cluster identified by Williams et al. (1). To reveal the homogeneity of S. violaceus, further study, including DNA fingerprinting and protein electrophoresis, is necessary.
