The Effect of Baker's Yeast Added to the Quail Rations to Growth and Carcass Yield

Abstract: This study was carried out to determine the effects of rations containing 5, 10, 15 and 20 % baker's yeast on live weight gain, feed consumption, feed efficiency and carcass yield of quails. A total of 350 three days old Japanese quail chicks (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were used in this experiment. They were divided into one control group and four treatment groups each containing 70 quail chicks. The experimental period lasted 32 days. Feed consumption, live weight gain, feed efficiency and carcass yield of treatment groups containing 5, 10 and 15 % baker's yeast was found to be similar to control group. The addition of 20 % yeast to the quail rations had negative effects on feed consumption, live weight, feed efficiency and hot and cold carcass yield of female quails. It is concluded that baker's yeast can be used in the rations of quail broilers up to 15 % as a protein source.
